What’s Your Hair Type?
Deciding the type of hair you have will be a large determinant of what your hair care routine will include and how you’ll go about it. But one thing first, keep it simple! You should be able to tell your hair type simply by walking up to a mirror and taking a look. Maybe you have puffy and full hair, or maybe it’s very thin and lays flat on your head. Does it look straight or curvy? This should be a very simple process, you’ve probably even got a mirror nearby right now, go ahead, have a look!
Why Do You Need a Hair Care Routine?
Next, you need to determine why you need a proper routine in the first place. Did you have a friend telling you about their routine? do you just think that it’s the right thing to do? Or maybe you’e got a small issue or problem with your hair that you’d like to fix, such as your hair being too frizzy, damaged, or dull. Whatever the case may be, your current hair condition and the goals you have specific to your hair will matter when considering a hair care routine.

Hair Washing
As you may have guessed, the first step in your hair care routine will be ensuring your hair is washed. It’s usually recommended to wash your hair about twice weekly. Although, that’s for the average person. You have to consider your own schedule and what types of things happen to your hair every day. For example, if you work in the heat every day or maybe you like to get a good sweat on every day to stay fit, you may consider washing slightly more frequently.
Shampoo & Conditioner
Choosing the right shampoo or conditioner for your hair type is also important to your hair care routine. If you have hair that’s either wavy or straight, you may want to consider a shampoo that’s free of sulfate. For those curly-haired people out there, remember to moisturize, and choose a shampoo with content of moisturizer in it. Coiled type of hair should be treated with a very gentle type of shampoo.
After the Shower
After you’re done washing your hair, styling it and drying it is also very important for your hair care routine. You’ll likely want to apply a mousse to your hair while it is still quite wet, especially if it’s a curly or coiled hair type. If you have straight hair, you can do this after drying your hair slightly with a towel, patting it lightly.
Additional Treatments – Hair Care Routine
Depending on your specific hair care routine goals, there might be a few additional treatments that you would want to add to your routine. Below are a few additional or specialized treatments that you may want to look into in order to achieve a specific look, feeling, or texture.

Mask for your Hair
Masks aren’t just for your face! You can get hair masks as well that will benefit the look and feel of your hair. This treatment is specifically for those who apply color to their hair and may benefit the feel and mainly the look of your hair color.
Vitamins
This is an easy addition to your routine. You can find a variety of vitamins that will help your hair grow and maintain overall health. That’s right, your hair care routine shouldn’t just focus on the outside, but also on the inside. Although there are vitamins specifically meant for hair health and growth, keeping a healthy and consistent diet and trying to avoid unhealthy foods will also assist in improving your hair and can be thought of as being part of your routine.
